Many job seekers hesitate when they are told the position they are interested in is located in Lawton, Oklahoma.   Lawton and the surrounding areas have much to offer residents and visitors alike.

From the Lawton Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce website:

“As Oklahoma’s third largest Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), Lawton serves as a prominent shopping, medical, recreational, educational and religious center for the region. It is the retail and distribution center for the area’s cattle, dairy and agricultural industries. Lawton Fort Sill is also the home of manufacturing and processing companies and is continually working toward the expansion of existing industries and the acquisition of new ones.”

If you love the outdoors, the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge  is a wonderful place to visit.  Bison and longhorn roam freely on the 59,020 acre refuge.  Numerous hiking trails take you through beautiful and unique terrain.  Camping, fishing, hunting, picnicking and more are available for visitors.  If you’re not the hiking type, you can take a drive up Mount Scott and enjoy the breathtaking views from the top of one of Oklahoma’s most prominent mountains.   The refuge borders parts of Fort Sill and the visitor center is approximately 20 minutes from Lawton.

The Meers Store & Restaurant, an establishment that has been open longer than Oklahoma has been a state, is home to the “best burger in Oklahoma”.

The historic town of Medicine Park is home to unique shops and restaurants and frequently holds events featuring art and music. In the summer, families can enjoy the lovely swimming area in the heart of the town.   Medicine Park is a mere 15 miles from Lawton.

The cities of Cache and Elgin both have excellent school districts, low crime rates and are within easy commuting distance of Lawton/Fort Sill.  Oklahoma City and Wichita Falls are an easy commute for people who are more attracted to bigger cities.
