Job Description:  The Technical Writer prepares and edits material for the United States Army Fire Center of Excellence School. In this capacity, the Technical Writer revises or writes material that is mostly standardized for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, field manuals, programs of instruction, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment.  Doctrine Developers, Training Developers, Instructors, Project Leads and others may provide the Technical Writer with technical information, notes or manuals containing operating procedures and details.  The Technical Writer and may observe production, developmental or experimental activities to expand or verify the provided operating procedures and details are current, relevant and up to date.  The writer organizes material and completes writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology, may maintain records and files of work and revisions, may select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material, assist in laying out material for publication, and arrange for typing, duplication and distribution of material.  The Technical Writer also conducts research, and writes revisions to existing doctrine, regulations, documents and manuals.  Additionally, the technical writer may review lessons learned and after action reviews and to revise current doctrine, as guided and approved by authorized supervisors.  The Technical Writer products may consist of paper publications, electronic, or web-based media.

Required:

  • HS Graduate.
  • Three (3) years experience in technical writing and/or editing.
  • Eligible for a Secret Clearance.

Desired:  Bachelor’s degree in English or related field.
